Mansfield Custom New Home Design
Project Overview
This custom home in Mansfield showcases yet another builder-led design, created in collaboration with Adam Mason Homes. The clients wanted a contemporary family retreat that combined bold aesthetics with practical functionality. Positioned in the sought-after Mansfield school catchment and backing onto the school oval, the site offered stunning bushland views but required careful bushfire compliance. Our design solution delivered a striking two-storey home that embraces its surroundings while optimising solar orientation for energy efficiency.
The brief called for a spacious home with room for international relatives to stay for extended periods. The result is a modern residence featuring clean lines, a dark and moody palette, and seamless indoor-outdoor living spaces.
Design Details
The ground floor centres around an oversized double garage with drive-through capability, leading into a combined mudroom and laundry with custom cabinetry. A dramatic entry foyer features a floating steel-string staircase with glass balustrades and a two-storey void, setting the tone for the home’s contemporary style.
Key spaces include:
- Guest Suite: Fully self-contained with ensuite and walk-in robe for extended family stays.
- Playroom / Media Room: Flexible space with built-in window seat storage.
- Entertainers’ Kitchen: Concrete-look benchtops, wrap-around pantry, and six-metre-wide doors opening to the alfresco.
- Alfresco Area: Timber ceiling detail and outdoor kitchen for effortless entertaining
- Living Room Void: A dramatic two storey void over the living room features a massive 4.5m high window that frames the views at the rear of the property.
- Master Bedroom: An oversized master bedroom sits upstairs facing the bushland views with a private balcony, massive walk through wardrobe with woodgrain cabinetry leading to a luxurious ensuite with dual showers and double vanity.
Upstairs, three generous children’s bedrooms share a cleverly designed bathroom with freestanding bath, separate toilet, and concealed shower. A sitting room overlooks the main living void, while the master suite boasts a private balcony, walk-through wardrobe, and luxurious ensuite with dual showers and double vanity.
Interior Design
The interiors embrace a dark and moody palette, anchored by Australian spotted gum timber flooring throughout. Cabinetry combines black and walnut finishes, complemented by black-framed windows and doors. Integrated and feature pendant lighting enhances the dramatic aesthetic, while bathrooms feature concrete-look tiles, organic mirrors, and Parisi Fucili brushed black tapware. Subtle texture is introduced through herringbone tile patterns, creating visual interest without overwhelming the scheme.
Externally, the home continues the bold theme with a black-and-white colour palette, monument cladding, and warm timber accents on the alfresco and entry ceilings. The roof design accommodates a 10kW solar system, ensuring sustainability without compromising style.
