Queenslander Renovation and Extension Design Brisbane: Swan St, Gordon Park

The Swan Street transformation showcases the best in Queenslander renovation and extension design in Brisbane. This project turned a compact two-bedroom, one-bathroom home into a spacious, light-filled four-bedroom, two-bathroom residence. As a result, the home now meets the needs of a growing family and future living.

Design Innovation and Value

The client wanted more space and functionality. Therefore, the team at Story+Lab and JDL Construction challenged the original concept and delivered a creative redesign that maximised value and liveability. By introducing a split-level layout and slab-on-ground construction, the design improved buildability and cost efficiency. Additionally, it enabled the addition of a fourth bedroom, a larger kitchen and pantry, and a more generous bathroom, while improving the connection to outdoor living and the private backyard.

This innovative approach added $250,000 in equity for only $25,000 more than the initial plan. Consequently, the project came in under the client’s $650,000 budget and set a new benchmark for Queenslander renovation and extension design in Brisbane.

Seamless Family Living

The new layout includes a generous master suite, two dedicated children’s bedrooms, a guest room, and refined open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas. Moreover, these spaces flow effortlessly to the outdoors. The home is designed for entertaining, with areas that easily accommodate large gatherings. For example, a Christmas celebration for over 50 guests proved the home’s versatility and warmth.

Client Satisfaction

Client feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. In fact, the owners expressed pride and delight in their new home. Their testimonial highlights the project’s success, and their advocacy has led to multiple referrals. Ultimately, this underscores the value of responsive design and strong client relationships.

Award Recognition

This project was honoured as a finalist in the HIA Awards 2025, recognising excellence in renovation and extension design within Brisbane’s competitive residential sector.
